What a day! The snow was finally done flying, but several dedicated volunteers were still flying around, hard at work. Why? What were they up to?

Several organizations in the central Indiana area recently came together to help the many wonderful cats at Indianapolis Animal Care and Control (IACC) to get an even better chance at finding a new home.

One day, Lisa Tudor of Indy Feral and Jane Heine of Tails a' Waggin' were looking at the numbers, the large number of wonderful cats that come into IACC and how few are lucky enough to find a new home. Hence, the wheels started turning, the questions were asked and a new collaborative project was born.

The kennel staff at IACC identified 22 cats at the shelter that were prime candidates for the project. Spay Neuter Services of Indiana was contacted and agreed to finance the project and arrangements were made to get them to the Indy Feral clinic where they were all checked out, spay/neutered and vaccinated, ready for a new home.

There are so many great cats that come into IACC, what can we do to give them a better chance at finding a new home? One of the best ways was to have them all ready for adoption. Now, how to let people know? It was decided that help was also needed to get these guys noticed. The groups worked together to establish a photograph team and Tails a' Waggin' volunteered to get them on Petfinder.com as well as several other adoption websites.

This has already translated into an increase in the number of adoptions out of IACC, in fact 2 of the cats from the project went home in the first 24 hours!

The project has been a huge success and plans are being made to continue and expand. This is just one great example of how groups and organizations can come together to make a difference and save lives!
